The 60th anniversary week in Coronation Street saw the residents come together to stop Ray Crosby (Mark Frost) from destroying the cobbles to make way for his new development. After a week of protesting, camping outside the brewery and a rendition of ‘We Shall Not Be Moved’, the temporary halt for the historic buildings came through just in time, so Ray’s plans were stopped.
While Ray was stopped initially, he wasn’t going to be defeated, and since then he’s continued to try and find loopholes and worm his way around the rules so his new plan can go ahead.
With the community doing all that they can to stop Ray, he could be set to destroy the street after all following a huge victory.
In the factory, the residents watch the council planning meeting via live link. Debbie (Sue Devaney) puts forward a strong case for the development, while Roy (David Neilson) gives an impassioned speech to save their community.
With the meeting over, the Chairperson announces that the committee has found in Ray’s favour and the development can go ahead. As Ray and Debbie congratulate each other, the residents are horrified to find letters stuck to their front doors, informing them they have two weeks to vacate their properties before the demolition boys move in.
It looks like Ray’s plan may be going ahead after all, but will there be anything else the community can do to win?
