Kate Garraway made a surprise appearance on Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday as she sent Ranvir Singh and Giovanni Pernice a message of support after their waltz.
Ranvir and Giovanni joined Claudia Winkleman after getting a mixed reception from the judges, with Craig Revel-Horwood criticising Ranvir’s footwork while Shirley Ballas praised her frame.
Before the judges’ scores were in, Claudia played the video message from Kate to Ranvir, celebrating her being in the semi-final of the show.
Kate said in the clip: ‘Ranvir, the semi-finals? This is unbelievable, I mean it’s not though, is it, because you are unbelievable.
‘It’s just so fantastic watching you, you are amazing, we all know you are amazing and now the world knows it too.
‘It’s just brilliant, good luck, hope you get to the final but whatever happens you are the absolute winner of this series.’
Ranvir was blown away to get the message from Kate, appreciating that her presenter pal had taken the time to wish her luck despite going through a very difficult year herself, with husband Derek Draper still battling the after-effects of coronavirus in hospital.
She told Claudia: ‘We all know what she is going through. She typifies what everyone is going through this year and it’s so wonderful she found time to think of me. That is her all over.
‘Thank you so much to her. It means so much for me.’
Viewers also loved seeing Kate pop up on screen, tweeting: ‘Kate Garraway going through hell but still thinking of Ranvir Singh’ and ‘Kate Garraway’s message to Ranvir on strictly this week, I cannottttttt’.
Others added: ‘That says a lot about Kate Garraway as a person to make time for Ranvir given what she’s going through with her husband’s recovery from Covid’.
Each of the couples on Strictly will perform two dances to fight for their place in next week’s final, with one being voted off in Sunday’s show.
The semi-finalists competing for a place in the final are Ranvir and Giovanni, Jamie Laing and Karen Hauer, Maisie Smith and Gorka Marquez and Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse.
