The popular NBC crime drama wrapped up its eighth instalment at the start of the summer, leaving viewers unclear when James Spaders’ ‘Red’ Reddington and co. would be returning. Series regular Amir Arison has now revealed an exciting update on his Instagram and Twitter profiles.
Television star Amir Arison has confirmed production on the upcoming ninth season of The Blacklist will be starting very soon.
In a since removed Instagram Story, the actor revealed he had taken a COVID test to start filming.
Arison also told fans he’ll be trying on his wardrobe this week as he prepares to get back into character as cyber expert Aram Mojtabai.
One of his followers noticed the update and relayed the information in a recent Twitter post.
They said: “Answering a fan’s question on Insta, @AmirArison said he took the Covid test yesterday and has the costume fitting today.
“Filming for the ninth season of #TheBlacklist will begin next week. And I’m not curious AT ALL.”
Upon seeing the post, Arison confirmed the news yet again by retweeting it to his profile.
He’ll once again be joining Red, and FBI agents Alina Park (Laura Sohn) and Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) to track down more of the world’s most dangerous criminals.
Season nine will also undergo a major shake-up to the formula as long-running star Megan Boone exited her role as Liz Keen following the devastating finale last June.
Although NBC have yet to confirm the show’s production schedule, it’s quite clear the cast of the series are preparing to start filming very soon.
With shooting for new seasons of The Blacklist running concurrently with the show’s broadcast, it’s likely the drama will begin again in late 2021.
The latest news received an overwhelming response from fans, excited to see the series return before the end of the year.

One viewer exclaimed: “Thank you for the exciting news!!! WOO HOOOOOOOO!!!!”
“Well I’m thrilled. I cannot wait to see what the new season 9 of THE BLACKLIST holds,” said another Twitter user.
A third fan also claimed Arison’s co-star Hisham Tawfiq provided more evidence of The Blacklist’s impending return.
They said: “Hisham liked a tweet of [mine] responding to a pic he had posted with no beard & it must mean he’s soon to be back [at] work. #Progress at last.”
Hopefully the latest insight from the cast will lead to an official update from NBC, including a premiere date, in the next few weeks.
The next season has already become one of the most anticipated releases in the series’ near decade-long history.
Following the death of its protagonist Liz Keen and some startling revelations about Red Reddington, fans are more excited than ever to see the series continue.
As the latest outing ended in June, a month later than usual, the release schedule for season nine has been thrown into doubt.
Thankfully, these latest updates have assured viewers The Blacklist is well on its way back to screens.
