On Wednesday’s episode of Bradley Walsh’s quiz show The Chase on ITV, the team members were pitted against each other when contestant Emma decided to take the low offer of minus £3,000. Her decision left the players back at the table gobsmacked and quite annoyed she decided to take away such a big chunk of their winnings.

Before it was even her turn to face the Chaser, Mark “The Beast” Labbett targeted Emma as she advised her team-mate Fergus to go for a low offer and make it easy on himself.

“I wonder if Emma’s advice is actually setting up her level,” said the quizmaster, trying to intimidate the youngest player on the team.

When it got to her turn, Emma collected a decent £5,000 in her cash-builder.

She was offered a high offer of £37,000 and a low offer of minus £3,000.

“You talked yourself into this,” commented the Chaser about the incredibly low offer.

Giving Emma some advice, fellow contestant Dot said: “No, no! Don’t be tempted, go for the middle. Don’t go for the minus!”

Fergus added: “Go for the middle. £5,000 is great.”

Matt also wanted her back for the Final Chase with the middle offer.

However, Emma surprised everyone taking the minus offer.

She said: “I can see what you are doing and I am a strategic thinker. I’m going to take the minus £3,000.”

“Ouch,” commented Bradley as the contestant’s choice would bring the team’s total down form £13,000 to £10,000.

“Look at Dot. Dot’s shocked. Dot can’t quite work out what is going on,” noticed Bradley.

“Dot was going to do that in her turn,” said the Chaser to which the contestant replied laughing: “You guessed.”

Getting all the questions right, Emma enraged the rest of her team as she could have brought back the £37,000.

“You can look at it this way,” said the Chaser. “You really annoyed Dot, you have taken her option away from her but, those magic two words that Brad likes to say ‘still on’.”

As she walked back to the other contestants with her head down, Bradley said: “It’s a frosty reception there back at the team.”

It was then Dot’s turn to take on the Chaser, which offered her a low offer of minus £1,000 and a high offer of £40,000 after her cash-builder of £4,000.

“You can thank Emma for this,” mused the Chaser.

Emma then gave Dot some advice saying: “I wish I had the confidence to go higher. Take the £4,000.”

“I’d never take the minus,” said Dot taking a dig at Emma.

After taking the middle offer, Dot however was caught by the Chaser and the team headed to the final round without her.

After their defeat, Bradley shamed Emma saying: “It was close, you know what you needed?” to which the team replied in unison “Dot”.

“Dot would have done it,” said Bradley.

The Chase airs weeknights on ITV at 5pm.
