Over the years The Chase has put together quite the impressive bunch of quizzing masters. Since joining the team for the latest series, Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis has been reigning undefeated over the ITV show for an impressive streak of episodes now. Is he about to knock Anne Hegerty off the top spot as the best Chaser?

On tonight’s show, The Menace took home an impressive win over a skilled team who only managed to accrue 14 right answers in the Final Chase.

Easily beating that low target with 38 seconds to spare, the Chaser was praised on Twitter by fans for his unbroken winning streak.

“Congrats to Darragh ‘the Menace’ Ennis for being undefeated a whopping EIGHT times – I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else achieve that! #TheChase,” said one viewer.

Well played…. again Darragh! #TheChase,” added another.

A third user questioned: “Is @bones_giles still on a 100% win rate? #TheChase”

“Well done the menace don’t think he has lost a game yet  #TheChase,” wondered another.

Others added: “Is that still unbeaten for @bones_giles? #TheChase” and “Darragh is on fire #TheChase.”

“Pure respect for @bones_giles for being as yet undefeated #NewFavouriteChaser”, concluded a further person.

Darragh Ennis is the latest addition to the ITV show, only joining as a Chaser in November 2020.

He took part in the quiz show as a contestant in 2017, proving himself to be a confident player by banking £9,000 in the cash builder and contributing 14 correct answers to his team’s 23 steps in the final Chase, but only going home with £1,575.

Because of this impressive performance, when the ITV show was looking to expand the number of people who sit in the Chaser’s hot seat, Darragh was mentioned.

After signing a contract and filming several episodes for the latest series, Darragh appeared on screen earlier this year, and since then the Irish Chaser is currently on a winning streak of eight consecutive wins.

While it doesn’t sound like much, compared to the record for the longest winning streak of 74, held by American Chaser Ken Jennings, since Darragh recently joined the show, his small streak makes him undefeated thus far.

However, while Darragh is holding on to his own individual record, that doesn’t make him the best Chaser on the show, just yet.

That title, unsurprisingly, goes to Anne who, in more than 350 episodes of the show, has gathered at astonishing 82.4% winning rate.

Anne has achieved 100% accuracy in 23 episodes of The Chase and has the highest amount of clean sweeps, getting no answers wrong during the Final Chase.

Though with such an impressive start of a 100% winning rate so far Darragh could soon be coming for Anne’s top spot.

Darragh has already been involved in his first scandal since being on the show, as last month he has to address claims that he had been sacked from the show.

Fans were speculating that Darragh had been fired by ITV after viewers noticed he had been missing for a while.

Darrah took to Twitter to say that: “Ah bless. I’ve not been sacked. Just the vagaries of scheduling. One of the points of the show is that you don’t know who is coming across the bridge, so it’s a bit random. I have not been sacked. The schedule is pretty random. Sometimes I’ll be on a lot, sometimes there’s a bit of a gap.”

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
