The Larkins is airing on ITV from Sunday, October 10 and the TV series is based on The Darling Buds of May. The escapist show promises to provide viewers with plenty of laughs, tears and uplifting moments. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about who is in the cast.

Who is in The Larkins?

Pop Larkin – Bradley Walsh

Pop Larkin is the patriarch of the family and he is known for being a wheeler-dealer who can get his hands on just about anything.

His family is his main priority in life and he has a big heart, always putting his wife and six children first.

He is played by Bradley Walsh, an actor and TV presenter best known for hosting the game show The Chase.

In terms of his acting roles, he played Danny Baldwin in Coronation Street and Graham O’Brien in Doctor Who.

His son, Barney, is also believed to have been cast as the village policeman in the upcoming series.

Ma Larkin – Joanna Scanlan

Ma is the heart of the family and she loves nothing better than looking after her loving family.

She is very down to earth and values community spirit, despising those who have considered higher-brow.

She is played by Joanna Scanlan, an actress known for her roles in The Thick of It and Getting On.

The star said she had the original Darling Buds of May books series, which she would read as a child when she was feeling under the weather.

Mariette Larkin – Sabrina Bartlett

Mariette is the eldest daughter in the family and she is known for attracting plenty of men.

However, she has her eyes set on something else, as she has a dream of travelling to Paris and has no time for dating.

She is played by Sabrina Bartlett, who is best known for playing Siena Rosso in the first season of Bridgerton.

Speaking about filming The Larkins, she said: “For me, I grew up in the countryside, riding horses and playing outdoors.

“It was great to kind of go back to something that I understood, that was a part of my life.”

Primrose Larkin – Lydia Page

Primrose is another of the Larkin siblings who idolises her older sister Mariette and aspires to be like her.

She is a self-conscious character but she has plenty to offer.

She is played by Lydia Page, who is best known for her roles as Mildred Hubble in The Worst Witch.

Pauline – Natalie Mitson

Pauline is one of Mariette’s biggest rivals in the series, but it did not always used to be that way.

The pair had been friends, but now they try their utmost to outdo each other in all aspects of life.

Natalie Mitson is a newcomer on the acting scene, who has previously starred in The Last Bus.

Cedric Charlton – Tok Stephen

Cedric is a taxman who comes to stay with the Larkins and he makes the family question their future on the farm.

He also stars to fall for Mariette, but her mind is elsewhere.

He is played by Tok Stephen, an actor who has previously starred in Silent Witness and Grantchester.

The actor said: “I am thrilled to be cast as Charley in such a beloved and wonderful show.

“I can’t wait to work alongside Joanna, Bradley and Sabrina. I’m incredibly excited. I hope we can impress fans of the original novels with our version.“

Tom Fisher – Stephen Hagan

Tom is new in the village and he is a very attractive young man who also has his eye on Mariette.

He is played by Stephen Hagan, best known for his role as Leonardo da Vinci in the series Medici.

The actor is on Twitter and he shared a first look photo from The Larkins, saying: “I had so much fun working on this!”

Johnny Delamere – Robert Bathurst

Johnny is a retired actor who has become somewhat of a local celebrity in the village.

He is played by Robert Bathurst, best known for his roles in Downton Abbey and Cold Feet.

Fans may also recognise him from Toast of London and Blackadder.

Edith Pilchester – Amelia Bullmore

Edith is the social butterfly in the community and she is on every committee the village has to offer.

However, on the inside she is very lonely and is not entirely happy with her life.

She is played by Amelia Bullmore, an actress known for her roles in Coronation Street and Ashes to Ashes.

Brigadier – Kriss Dosanjh

Brigadier is a retired Army officer from India and he lives with his sister, Miss Chand.

He is played by Kriss Dosanjh, best known for his roles in This Is England and as Hassan Habeeb in Coronation Street.

Miss Chand – Seeta Indrani

Miss Chand is the headteacher at the local school and she is played by Seeta Indrani.

The actress has previously starred in Unforgotten, Vera, Casualty and Catastrophe.

Alec Norman – Tony Gardner

Alec is one of Pop’s rivals in the series and he is jealous of how popular with the villagers Pop is.

He is played by Tony Gardner, best known for his roles in My Parents are Aliens and Last Tango in Halifax.

The actor is on Twitter and he revealed he is currently filming for The Larkins Christmas special.

He said: “Lovely to be back filming The Larkins Christmas Special for a few weeks. Ep 1 this Sunday, 8pm.”

Norma Norman – Selina Griffiths

Norma is Alec’s wife in the series and she is exactly the sort of person Ma Larkin cannot stand.

She is played by Selina Griffiths, best known for her role as Pauline Maltby in Benidorm.

She has also starred in Not Going Out, Still Open All Hours and Jonathan Creek.

The Vicar – Peter Davison

The vicar adds to the comedic value of the series and he is known for having a foul mouth.

He is played by Peter Davison, best known for being the fifth Doctor in Doctor Who.

He is also known for his roles in Gentleman Jack, Vera and Law and Order: UK.

The star also played the original Tristan Farnon in the All Creatures Great and Small series.

The Larkins airs on Sunday on ITV at 8pm.
