What happened to Kjetill Flatnose?
Long-standing fans of Vikings were excited to binge their way through the final 10 episodes of the saga.
The start of the final season featured Kjetill Flatnose and the rest of the Vikings who had travelled to Iceland, including Ubbe, his wife Torvi (Georgia Hirst) and the wanderer Othere (Ray Stevenson).
The group had attempted to travel to a new destination, determined to find the Golden Land Othere had sworn he had seen.
Instead, they came across a desolate island, with no sign of life, but they were determined to make use of what they had.
They decided to portion up the land between the different families, and get to work creating a sustainable source of food.

Just as the group was about to give up hope, Kjetill’s son found a whale that had washed up on the beach on Kjetill’s portion of land.
While Ubbe and the rest of the group expected Kjetill to share the whale as food, Kjetill said the whale belonged to his family as it was on his property.
The exchange grew more and more heated as Ubbe and the other Vikings believed Kjetill was “out of his mind”.
In the end, a huge fight broke out between the settlers, and many of the Vikings were killed. Ubbe, Torvi, Othere and a small number of the settlers managed to flee and get back on the boat, getting as far away from Kjetill as possible.
Kjetill, who had clearly gone mad with his hunger for power, was stood on top of the huge whale, shouting and hollering. He claimed he was now the King of the land.
This was the last fans saw of Kjetill and his family, and they are curious to know what became of him.
While it is never addressed in the remaining episodes, viewers can only imagine his sanity continued to spiral on the island.
He ended up losing his son in the fight, as he had been killed in the fray, and this would have had a huge impact on the rest of his family.
He may have decided to stay put, making use of the whale for food and various other useful materials, but this would have only lasted for so long.
In the long term, it can only be assumed Kjetill and his family died of either hunger or a lack of resources.

His character had always been a mystery to viewers, as they had started to believe he was involved in the disappearance of Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård).
Ahead of the release of the final 10 episodes, they were almost certain Kjetill had either killed Floki or had driven him out of Iceland.
Once the episodes landed, fans learned Floki was in fact still alive, and he had decided to leave Iceland as a “sadness” had washed over him and he wanted a fresh start.
Floki never spoke of Kjetill or his involvement in his disappearance, so it seems this theory had been introduced to throw fans off the scent that Floki was still alive.
Kjetill was introduced to the series in the fifth season when Floki decided to make his trip to Iceland.
His character is loosely based on the real Ketill Flatnose, who was one of the first settlers of Iceland and is believed to have been the King of the Orkney Islands.
Actor Copeland, also known as WWE wrestler ‘Edge’, is on Instagram and he shared a behind the scenes photo of himself as Kjetill with co-stars Ludwig and Kristy Dawn Dinsmore.
He said: “Photographic proof that Kjetill isn’t such a bad guy. He even sees eye to eye with Bjorn @alexanderludwig from time to time and makes the beautiful Amma @_kristydawndinsmore bellow with laughter.
“While some, like his hair artiste extraordinaire @peter.l.burke would even go so far as to say he’s pretty much the bee’s knees. Although the last pic maaaaayyyy show his other side [sic].”
