Phillip Schofield was all of us as he asked Matt Hancock one of the most important questions when it comes to lockdown and our mental health: ‘When can I hug someone again?’

With millions spending quarantine alone and Boris Johnson’s plan indicating there’s quite a stretch to go, people are desperate to learn when they can hug a loved one.

Holly Willoughby aired her concerns as children are expected to return to school in June before Phil wanted to know when we can finally wrap someone up in our arms again.

Sadly, Mr Hancock wasn’t hopeful it would be anytime soon.

‘I wouldn’t recommend it,’ said the Health Secretary.

‘Really to get to the point where this is totally sorted is when we have a treatment or a vaccine.

‘Those developing a vaccine think they should have it on stream for this Autumn.

‘I’m cautious. I’m giving them all of the support that we possibly can, but the science of vaccines is very complicated.

‘The trials are going really well so far. There’s several hundred people who have got a vaccine in them already to test it and to test that it’s safe, and that it works… If it comes off by the Autumn that would be wonderful, but there’s a lot of science to do between now and then to be able to sort it.’

Mr Hancock cleared up several key topics, indicating ‘summer will be cancelled’ as travel plans are a long way away.

Mr. Hancock’s appearance on This Morning comes after Holly was outraged ministers were boycotting the show yesterday, as well as Good Morning Britain and Lorraine. However, they’ve seemingly taken a U-turn for Holly and Phil.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
