Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary have been keeping This Morning viewers entertained since January. They have been hosting the series every Friday, but today’s show will see Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby take the reins. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about why Hammond and O’Leary are not on the show and when they will return.

Where are Alison and Dermot on This Morning?

Hammond and O’Leary seemed like an unlikely pairing in the beginning, but their on-screen partnership has gone down a hit with fans.

The presenters took over from Friday hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes at the start of the year, following a 14-year stint.

Hammond had been a part of the show for a long time and would regularly lead various segments, yet she was excited to take on a bigger role.

Former X Factor host O’Leary said it was a huge challenge to fill the shoes of the previous presenters.

Last week Hammond and O’Leary announced the Friday edition of the show would be their last for a while.

Dermot told Alison: “I’m very excited today because it’s our last show of the season, isn’t it?”

Alison then confirmed the pair would be back in September, following a seven-week summer holiday.

Holly and Phil are also expected to take their summer break following this Friday’s episode.

Then it will be down to Ruth and Eammon to take over the Friday slot during the school holidays.

Alison and Dermot have been the leading lights on the Friday show for the past seven months.

Over this time, they have gained a loyal following and have received plenty of praise from viewers who have enjoyed the banter.

They have also honed in on some powerful issues and have been involved in some heated debates.

One fan said on Twitter: “@thismorning I haven’t laughed so much alison josie and dermot Thank you When are you all getting a show together?” [Sic]

Another said: “No Alison and Dermot until September? Very sad, Friday mornings have been just brilliant and such fun, empathy and seriousness too. They are brilliant together.”

Viewers have called Alison “television gold” as she is known for her hilarious blunders and banter.

Dermot has proven to be equally as popular and viewers are sad to see the pair take some time off.

Another viewer said: “Will miss my Fridays watching Alison and Dermot until September. Happy holidays to you both.”

Their extended break is not uncommon as the hosts are used to getting time off during the school holidays.

Eamonn and Ruth both previously announced they would be covering for the presenters during the summer.

Another fan shared their thoughts on the hilarious pairing, saying: “Dermot and Alison have grown on me.

“At first I was so use to Eamonn and Ruth and when change happens it does rock you but they have really been entertaining.

“In the beginning I ashamingly called they both clowns. You are both great presenters and have won me over.” [Sic]

The same opinion has been upheld by many viewers and they will be pleased to hear the pair will be making a comeback soon.

This is certainly not the last they have seen of Alison and Dermot.

This Morning airs on ITV on weekdays from 10am.
