Gossip Girl is returning for a reboot and continuation of the original series on HBO Max and The CW. Because of this, fans have been going back through the original show to catch up on all things Gossip Girl. The classic series was led by Blair Waldorf (played by Leighton Meester), but who did she end up with at the end of the show?
Who did Blair Waldorf end up with in Gossip Girl?
The original Gossip Girl series ran for six seasons, with the final episode of season five leading to Blair’s decision on who she wanted to be with.
In the finale of season five, titled The Return of the Ring, Blair chooses to be with Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) and they make a pact to ensure they end up together.
In the series finale the season six-episode New York, I Love You XOXO, sees the pair get married, bringing their relationship arc to a happy end.
At the end of the episode, there is a time jump of several years showing they now have a house together in the city.
It also shows that they have a son named Henry (Alex Bento) before the much-loved series finished for good.
Blair and Chuck grew up together on the Upper East Side of New York, with the two sharing some of the most important moments together in their early years.
They officially get together in the episode The Goodbye Gossip Girl, in season two but they faced some challenging times ahead.
After the episode Inglourious Bassterds, Chuck and Blair split up and would have a turbulent relationship throughout seasons four and five.
Yet, in the end, they put aside their differences and realised they loved one another, bringing the show to a close.
Now, Gossip Girl is coming back with a new reboot on HBO Max and The CW.
Whilst the 2021 series is called a reboot, it is actually a continuation of the original show – however, it will feature new characters.
This leaves the door open to the original cast, Blair and Chuck included, making an appearance at some point in the future.
However, fans shouldn’t hold their breath for this to happen, as showrunner Joshua Safran has made it clear he wants to focus on the new characters for now.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Safran explained: “There isn’t enough screen time. If Blair [Waldorf] showed up for two scenes, you’d say, ‘I want more Blair’.
“The decision was, ‘Let’s get season one under our belt, and should we get season two, we’ll have the chance to bring in cameos that are more than glorified cameos but actually give them storylines.”
If the show does get a second season, then the possibility of Blair and Chuck showing up is there.
For now, fans will have to make do with the next generation of Gossip Girl characters who will be making their debut when the series premieres on July 8.
HBO recently dropped a trailer for the new show, with fans rushing to the comments to share their excitement for the new series.
One fan said: “I already know I’m going to be addicted.”
Another fan added: “I have lost count of how many times I’ve rewatched this trailer. Am I the only one obsessed?”
A third fan said: “I’ve rewatched this trailer, hundreds of times it’s insane! I’m so excited”
Gossip Girl is available to watch on HBO Max and The CW.
